Book does not have problems for students

The book is clearly written, and it uses both Stata and R (R code available on the text's website), but I didn't see any problems to assign to students in the book.

Currently I use statistics textbooks for teaching epidemiologic methods and data analysis that have terrific datasets and problems that come with them. The texts of the books that I use is only so-so, and not totally adapted for teaching epidemiology, so I wanted to consider a statistics book for epidemiology students. I sat down to start doing the problems in the book so that I could evaluate whether to switch to this book. I pulled out a pen and paper and my computer and skimmed the first chapter and liked it, but there were no problems to do. Thinking that maybe that was just the first chapter, I did the same with skimming the second chapter, and again, no problems, and skimming the rest, no problems. If I continued to do the examples in the book itself, perhaps I could think of extensions that work as problem sets, but I would hate to put so much work into the textbook and count on finding problems that are natural extension of the text: that is the author's job, and much easier for the author to do than for me because the author knows the examples really well already.

I really appreciate that the author published the Stata output and R code on the website. Some of the R code needs debugging because it refers to objects that aren't there. I don't want to put too much time into this book before deciding that I should just stick with what I have, but it seems that I will end up doing just that.

Deep math

I took a course at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health which recommended this book for the course. Thankfully, I got the Kindle version of the book and was able to follow along with the instructor who was madly writing extreme math formulas on a blackboard. The book is very heavy, and unless you are into logistic regression and other advanced stats, this book will be way too complex to understand.

About the Author
From the age of twelve, Waysun Liao studied with a wandering Taoist and in a Taoist temple until he became a full Taichi and Tao master. Considered one of the world's foremost authorities on traditional Taoist wisdom and Chi arts, he is the founder and master of one of the oldest Taichi centers in North America, located in Oak Park, Illinois. He is one of the few remaining Tao masters carrying and transmitting the ancient oral traditions concerning the power of Tao, and shares his wisdom with students across the world.

Master Liao is the author of several books, including Nine Nights with the Taoist Master, Chi: Discovering Your Life Energy, and the acclaimed T'ai Chi Classics, which has been translated into nine languages. A Journey to Tao

Do you seek to assign meaning to suffering? Are you searching for a way to reconnect to God? If so, we share something in common. Years of seeking "truth" and exploring philosophies and religions have led me down many paths including Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Existentialism, etc. Each held a thread of truth for me - but none took me where I wanted...where I needed...to go. Veering from traditional paths, I looked to Mysticism, Gnosticism, Wicca, and other traditions to help me understand who we are - and how to get back to whom we are meant to be. Again more threads, but no answers. During this journey, I was only exposed briefly to the Chinese religion of Tao - literally the truth or the way.

Silently below my western radar, the Tao was far from my thoughts until through Tai Chi I was exposed to Master Waysun Liao's book - "Tao: The Way of God." Through this book, the threads I had been gathering were woven into a tapestry - a Gestalt reality that far transcends the sum of the painstakingly gathered parts I had tried to piece together. This is a belief system that confirms and celebrates what my heart and mind have been telling me all along. We are of God, and God - our "Te" is within us.

Using stories and metaphors, Master Liao humbly and stylistically shares a deceptively simple path back to the source - back to God. Advocating a simple lifestyle in which we are not consumed by distractions and demands, Liao describes sin as our movement away from God - nothing more - nothing less - how liberating! In a universe of constant movement, of Yin and Yang, our challenge, our hope, becomes to redirect our energy - our Chi - inward, back to the pure source of original energy, God, through the "dance" of moving meditation - Tai Chi.

Far from a member of the Tao or Tai Chi community, anything more I can say about Master Liao's gift would be reductionist and simplistic in nature. But I can tell you that in a world often bereft of faith - Master Liao offers hope:

"...the message of hope in this book is that if enough people do whatever is necessary to restore their connection to God, we can broadcast a message, that signal of original energy, out into the world. That signal may change our world's course by an inch, or even a half an inch. But that may be just enough..." p. 278.

Learning about TAO TE CHING from a Master

The ancient Tao Te Ching would seem to be respectful of all the major religions as Master Liao writes about it in this 281 page paperback. It is a deep, but easy book to read because of Liao's metaphors, and I liked reading one heading per day, as he breaks down the original from Lao Tzu into small parts.

Finding our life's energy, that connects to the Divine Energy, takes motivation, discipline, and practice. Master Liao says the ultimate way comes with learning Tai Chi in all sincerity from a Master. In the future I hope he writes more on its application in today's troubled world.

I recommend this book for anyone having an interest in or studying about Tao.

Very open insights from a gifted man

Having looked for a long time on authentic, from the source writings about meditation and the Taoist way, this was a great find. This book is clear, cutting and it feels like each word is purposfully placed, and it is written by a living authorative Taoist figure in the west. It answered some questions, raised some more, and is challanging as it depicts what a connection to the power of God requires and what that creative power enables. With everything else i have read and experienced it certainly helps provide greater understanding as to where i am now and what it takes to move on. It helped to also read the deluxe study edition of the authors book, Nine Nights with a Daoist Master, to grasp his concepts and way of thinking.

This book gives you the tools to do something world-changing

This is a next-generation book that will help you get the most out of personal and professional relationships with other generations.

As a busy professional, I’m sometimes irritated by the “practical” books that are 60-70% longer than their content justifies. The author has 3-4 paragraphs of things worth saying, a publisher made him stretch them into a 15-page chapter, and I, the reader, have to sort through the fluff as a result.

Not so here. Jessica Stollings grabs the key information from social science and her own experience bridging generational divides, and fuses it together into a fast-paced, eminently practical book that works perfectly as both a primer and a reference.

The book spends some of its early chapters covering the basics on each generation—some defining historical moments and habituating influences and values, and some other insights. It’s almost like reading a personality preferences profile of an entire generation, in terms of the insights if can give you if you read it with an eye to understanding and compensating for those preferences.

But as one gets deeper into the book, Jessica doesn’t let you stop with generalizations—and certainly not stereotypes. The goal isn’t to put people in boxes; it’s to get the most out of disparate groups that too often experience friction with one another. So some of the most important parts of the book are about self-examination in light of generational contexts.

It’s all very well to be frustrated with the seemingly inexplicable idiosyncrasies of younger (or older) people. But this book gives you the tools to do something more useful—and maybe world-changing.

My volunteers are the age of my grandparents. My interns don't have a clue. I'm stuck in the middle and my boss needs help.

A few weeks ago, while working with a cherished member of a volunteer team at our community organization, she, a woman in her early 70s, and I, a woman in my mid 30s, struck up a conversation about television programs we enjoyed. She comes from an Irish family background and is originally from a northeastern urban area, though we live in the rural Southeast.

"You'd love Blue Bloods," I said, referring to the popular Tom Selleck vehicle about a New York City police family steeped in Irish-Catholic roots. Its a generational saga about adapting to the changing culture and challenges in a field and institution which struggles to recalibrate.

"Wonderful," my volunteer replied. "When is it on? And what channel."

I had absolutely no idea what channel is came on, which network created the show, or what time slot it might occupy. Since moving out on my own, I have never had cable, and stream all my television programming over the internet to my TV through apps like Hulu or Netflix.

While she smiled patiently, I recovered, and used the IMDB app on my smartphone to look it up so my volunteer and her husband could enjoy it the next week.

This very brief exchange with my volunteer, whom I attempted to connect with around something seemingly universal like television is a great example of why ReGenerations is so necessary. Chatting with a volunteer while we are relaxing together is a low stakes time to have a generational communication breakdown, but it in the midst of a major company initiative, it could be catastrophic.

Read this book if you've ever found yourself trying to explain to your new boss why you feel its important to be connected via social media during work -- because to you, its a lot like email or a phone call. Read this book if you have new employees or interns and you want to help them understand why the senior managers really need for them to put away the smart phones and come with pads and pens to meetings. Read this book if you want to unlock new ways to start conversations with grandparents, great-grandparents, nieces or nephews, or children.

I came to this book as someone used to wading through heavily footnoted academic studies. "Regenerations" is different -- it is grounded in the emerging research on generations but communicates the key takeaways the reader needs today to go and make her workplace function a little more smoothly. It will leave you wanting more--more details, more examples, and more data. But if you're just starting to realize that you need a new way of thinking about how to manage or participate in a team with ages ranging from 26 to 66, its the book you'll want to read right now. I wouldn't be too surprised if an upcoming episode of "Blue Bloods" features a Stollings-like character doing training for the NYPD commissioner's office.

One of the worst engineering books in the market

This is the worst engineering book i have ever encountered. the authors Cunningham and Stuller wrote this book with the expectation that students who read the book, are masters at analyzing circuits. the problems in the back of the book are extremely difficult, and the text is explained on the graduate student level. the book is full of errors, which can drive you insane when trying to do problems and trying to read through the text. this textbook needs to be burned, taken off the textbook market, and the authors need to retire in writing textbooks. if i could i would give this book -10 stars.

The book by Cunningham and Stuller was not well thought out!

Cunningham and Stuller's book has more errors than
I have ever previously encountered in a book, greatly
hindering the learning process. It also, is not geared
toward beginning circuits students, but instead it finds
a way to complicate analysis, which with proper explanation
could be quite simplistic. The examples are not near
the calibur of what is expected to be learned out of the
courses taught with it and they should be corresponding
not contradictory and hindering the learning process

The book had too many errors and too simple of examples.

The book by Cunningham and Stuller, Second edition was not as good as I had hoped. I thought that the book had way too many errors in it. Another thing the book was geared toward someone with a good view of electrical circuits. The problems given at the end of the chapter were much harder to understand with the overly simple examples in the text. I think that the book could have been written with much better ease of learning.

Susan Parson's new book explores a dimension of human life that has proven to be troublesome in understanding ourselves and disturbing in social relationships and structures. That dimension is gender.The Ethics of Gender investigates the impact of thinking with gender on modern ethics, and considers the insights that postmodern gender theory might bring to the ethical project. Following Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick's suggestion of the discursive incoherence of gender, the author follows the fault lines of modern humanism that are opened up by the gender critique, in relation to embodiment, subjectivity, and agency. The book investigates the effort to sustain humanism by means of an ethics of difference, of relationality, and of revaluation of nature, in such writers as Martha Nussbaum, Daphne Hampson, Lisa Sowle Cahill, Grace Jantzen, and Luce Irigaray. The central thrust of the book is, however, to understand these as echoes of the Nietzschean cry for redemption, and thus as signs of the failure of post-Enlightenment ethical thinking. With the help of Judith Butler's analyses of coming to matter, of subjection, and of performativity, the book concludes with the possibility of another way of self-understanding and of renewal in theological ethics for our time.

About the Author
Susan Frank Parsons is the Director of Pastoral Studies at the Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology in Cambridge, UK. She has published many articles and a book entitled Feminism and Christian Ethics (CUP, 1996), which has been widely cited and appreciatively reviewed.

An excellent source of basic information

The information contained in this publication should serve perfectly well to orient one interested in the field of recovering precious metals from electronic waste materials. . While it does not provide step by step instruction, it discloses critical aspects of the processes that precede the actual refining.

Fortunately, Joe provides sources for gaining further knowledge, so one interested in the refining process need not spend endless time pursuing knowledge that has been difficult to acquire. I recommend this e-book highly.

I'm hooked... this book showed me everything from A to Z

After watching the TV show Meltdown I saw how fun this could be so I searched around and found this book. It was an easy read and helped open my eyes to other items I could scrap for gold and silver. I almost hate leaving a review cause I'll see more people coming into the field but there's enough to go around for everyone.

I have another book by Joe Willard, Antique Secrets, which I have found extremely useful in dealing with garage and estate sales. This book is
written in the same excellent, informative style. Gold has and will be the only tool of monetary value in the future as our US dollars is declining in value. I did not realize all of the sources for E-waste gold. $10 is a small investment.
